Jean Newell going to the Today Show

Florida Woman Bounces from Pink Slip to National Spotlight

Jean Newell is taking her message of how to market yourself into a new career to The Today Show.  The 61-year-old self-proclaimed “Boomerpreneur” will offer advice on how to bounce back from the pink slip and reinvent yourself for a new career.  Newell has first-hand experience on how to do this.  After 35 years as a real estate agent, the dwindling housing market forced her to look at other career options.  “I was a little nervous about trying to find something suitable at my age so I just decided to start my own business,” Newell says.  She developed something called the PUP—a unisex wearable organizer.  Newell’s designer bag caught the attention of the nation’s largest shopping home network—QVC—where she was invited to appear and sell them.

Newell says starting your own home-based business has tremendous advantages. The weakened economy coupled with corporate downsizing and diminishing investments is forcing many baby boomers, like Newell, to look for alternative sources of income.  “After a 35-year-career in real estate, I realized the only way I would be able to offset rising inflation and the declining real estate market was to take control of my own income destiny.  That’s why I decided to go into business for myself to develop and market my own invention,” says Newell.  She attributes her success to aggressive marketing and sheer determination.

The 61-year-old has started a campaign to help educate boomers and seniors on what it takes to get started in your own home-based business and she will share her expertise with viewers of The Today Show on February 17 during a special baby boomer segment.
